Within the next few weeks, Wikipedia intends to add an additional layer of editorial scrutiny to the content on its site for “living people.â€Â This change makes it even more important to hire one of our experts to ensure your Wikipedia page is created and maintained properly. Wikipedia may have more than 7,500 “volunteer editors†with a freewheeling hand reviewing your page.
If you’ve been in business or politics long enough, you have received publicity that is favorable and sometimes unfavorable.
Can you really trust these volunteer editors to protect your reputation and your best interests?
According to The New York Times, roughly 60 million Americans visit Wikipedia every month. When a “volunteer editor†decides to review your page, will they ensure that these 60 million people see you at your best?
In 2005, the prominent author and journalist John Seigenthaler Sr. discovered that Wikipedia’s biographical article connected him to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy, a particularly scurrilous thing to report because he was personally close to the Kennedy family.
Under the current system, it is not difficult to insert false information into a Wikipedia entry, at least for a short time.  In March, for example, a 22-year-old Irish student planted a false quotation attributed to the French composer Maurice Jarre shortly after Mr. Jarre’s death. It was promptly included in obituaries about Mr. Jarre in several newspapers, including The Guardian and The Independent in Britain. And on Jan. 20, vandals changed the entries for two ailing senators, Edward M. Kennedy (before he died) and Robert C. Byrd, to report falsely that they had died.
Without the proper reputation and brand management, your reputation and business can be destroyed with a few clicks. While you may not put much credence in the influence of Wikipedia, you can assured that if your name or that of your brand appears in its more than 3 million entries, it will generally appear on the first page of a organic search throughout Bing, Google and Yahoo when your prospective clients and business associates search for news about you.
Wikipedia policies are not enforced with across the board or with standards that would be deemed acceptable to most of the public, therefore, it is essential that you consult with our Wikipedia experts to ensure your online reputation remains intact.
